Skin cancer is one of the few cancers that can be caught with a careful self-exam.

Skin cancer can occur anywhere on the skin. In people of color, skin cancer often occurs in areas that are protected from the sun, such as the palms of the hands, the bottom of the feet, under and around fingernails and toenails, inside the mouth, on the groin or genitals or between the buttocks.
